Montbell is a Japanese outdoor brand founded in Osaka in 1975, known for gear that is light, durable and fairly priced. In recent years it has moved beyond hikers: its simple shoulder bags and packable bags have become everyday commuting and travel staples in Japan. In kakaku.com’s bag brand ranking updated in October, Montbell is third, behind only The North Face and Porter.
Five bags in the spotlight: the understated Bernina Bucket, the U.L.MONO shoulder bag that packs down to the size of your palm, the foldable Pocketable Light Shoulder, the 93g Versalite Pack 15 and the laptop-friendly Travel Tough Pack 20, each with its official Japan price and a Singapore dollar reference price.
Montbell’s Japan site does ship to Singapore, but overseas orders are charged at a higher overseas price plus international shipping. With Buy&Ship proxy shopping, you paste the product link and our team orders it at the Japan domestic price using a Japan address. The bag goes to the Buy&Ship Japan warehouse and is then shipped on to you.

How to buy Montbell bags at the Japan domestic price
Montbell’s official Japan store does deliver to Singapore, but orders shipped there are not charged at the Japan domestic price. Switch the delivery country (配送先, top right of the site) to Singapore and the same bags are listed at roughly 39% to 43% more than the Japan price, with international shipping on top (from ¥3,000, free on orders of ¥30,000 or more).
| Bag | Japan domestic price (ordered via proxy shopping) | Official site price for delivery to Singapore |
|---|---|---|
| Bernina Bucket | ¥7,500 | JPY10,440 |
| U.L.MONO Shoulder L | ¥3,500 | JPY4,872 |
| Pocketable Light Shoulder M | ¥5,200 | JPY7,239 |
| Versalite Pack 15 | ¥6,200 | JPY8,844 |
| Travel Tough Pack 20 | ¥8,580 | JPY12,238 |
With Buy&Ship proxy shopping, our team places the order at the Japan domestic price using a Japan address, and orders of ¥11,000 or more also qualify for free domestic shipping in Japan. Colours that are waiting for restock can only be reserved on orders delivered within Japan, so overseas orders cannot pre-order them. If an item turns out to be out of stock or an order is cancelled, our proxy shopping team follows it up.
Why are Montbell bags so popular in Japan? Light, tough and easy to wear
Most Montbell bags use the brand’s own Ballistic nylon, which Montbell says has roughly twice the tear strength of conventional nylon at the same weight, so many of them are very light yet hard-wearing. ITmedia’s recurring feature “大人に似合うモンベルのバッグ” (Montbell bags that suit grown-ups) has picked the Bernina and U.L.MONO lines several times in 2026; its October edition (6 October) chose the U.L.MONO Shoulder M, Bernina Bucket and Bernina Tote M. The Japanese men’s fashion magazine OCEANS has also featured Montbell bags in its street-style snaps.
Stock levels tell the same story. As of 12 October, only one of the U.L.MONO Shoulder L’s five colours is in stock, every colour of the Bernina Shoulder S is waiting for restock, two colours of the Pocketable Light Shoulder M are marked as not restocking this season, and the L.W. Duffle 5 mini duffel has sold out in all five colours. If the colour you want is in stock, it is worth ordering soon.
5 popular Montbell bags, from ¥3,500 on the official Japan site

1. Bernina Bucket (ベルニナバケット)
Bernina is Montbell’s everyday city line, in understated colours: black, ivory, navy, khaki and pink. ITmedia’s October edition picked two bags from it. The Bernina Bucket closes with a snap button and a fold-over opening, holds 14L (enough for daily essentials, a water bottle and a folding umbrella), has an inner zip pocket with a key leash, and weighs 365g. Khaki, navy and pink are in stock. The smaller Bernina Shoulder S (¥6,900, 5L) is just as popular, but every colour is currently waiting for restock.
Official Japan price: ¥7,500 (about S$61)

2. U.L.MONO Shoulder L (U.L.MONO ショルダー L)
The U.L.MONO line uses 30-denier nylon with a silicone coating on both sides. The bag weighs just 40g and packs down to about 11 × 10cm, small enough for a trouser pocket, then opens out to 4L, enough for A4 documents and magazines. The strap is adjustable, the spare length tucks inside, and a loop takes a carabiner. It works as a spare bag on a trip, or for a walk with just a phone and wallet. Only marigold is in stock; the other four colours have sold out for the season. For something smaller, the U.L.MONO Pouch M (¥3,000, 1.4L, A5 size) has no stock at the moment, with some colours waiting for restock.
Official Japan price: ¥3,500 (about S$28)

3. Pocketable Light Shoulder M (ポケッタブル ライトショルダー M)
A 13L lightweight shoulder bag weighing 181g that folds into its own front pocket, to about 17 × 25cm. It is made of 70-denier ripstop nylon, with a mesh side pocket for a water bottle and a pull tab on the buckle for quick strap adjustment. It holds more than a typical crossbody bag: fold it into your suitcase and take it out for shopping or sightseeing. The navy shown is waiting for restock and green is in stock; black and blue have sold out for the season. There is also a smaller S (¥4,800) and a larger L (¥5,500), but every colour of both is currently sold out.
Official Japan price: ¥5,200 (about S$42)

4. Versalite Pack 15 (バーサライトパック 15)
A 15L backpack weighing only 93g, lighter than a phone. It was designed for fast, light hiking: the top lid turns inside out into a stuff sack, packing down to about 15 × 18cm. The shoulder straps use a breathable material and the body is 30-denier Ballistic ripstop nylon. Keep it in a corner of your suitcase and use it as a daypack once you arrive. Citron yellow and gunmetal are in stock, and blue-black is waiting for restock. For more space there is the Versalite Pack 20 (¥9,700).
Official Japan price: ¥6,200 (about S$50)

5. Travel Tough Pack 20 (トラベル タフパック 20)
A square 20L backpack in 420-denier Ballistic nylon, with a laptop sleeve, a zipped valuables pocket and water-resistant Aquatect zips. Its clean look suits both the office and weekend travel, and it weighs 425g. All five colours (light grey, dark green, dark grey, navy and tan) are in stock, making it the easiest of the five to get.
Official Japan price: ¥8,580 (about S$69)

Sold out: L.W. Duffle 5 (L.W.ダッフル 5)
A mini duffel that has been in high demand: 5L, about 14.5 × 28 × 14.5cm and 160g, in 100-denier Ballistic ripstop nylon, with two carry handles plus a shoulder strap, zip pockets inside and out, and a packable design. As of 12 October, all five colours (yellow, black, green, navy and orange) are sold out on the official site and marked as not restocking this season. If you want one, keep a close eye on Montbell’s Japan site; if it comes back, you can order it through proxy shopping.
Official Japan price: ¥4,000 (about S$32), currently sold out
Prices and stock checked on the Montbell Japan official site on 12 October 2026 (delivery country set to Japan). Singapore dollar prices are converted at ¥1 ≈ S$0.0081 and exclude Japanese domestic shipping, the proxy shopping service fee and Buy&Ship shipping. Prices and stock change often; the official site at the time of ordering is final.
What do two Montbell bags cost delivered to Singapore?
Take the Bernina Bucket and Versalite Pack 15 bought together: ¥13,700 in total, above the official site’s ¥11,000 free-shipping threshold, so Japanese domestic shipping is free. The two bags weigh about 458g, roughly 2 lb with packaging.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Bags (Bernina Bucket ¥7,500 + Versalite Pack 15 ¥6,200) | ¥13,700 (about S$111) |
| Montbell domestic shipping in Japan | ¥0 (free on orders of ¥11,000 or more) |
| Buy&Ship Shipping (first lb S$9 + 1 additional lb S$7) | S$16 |
| Total (base rate) | about S$127 |
Buy&Ship Singapore’s rates from the Japan warehouse: Buy&Ship Shipping is S$9 for the first pound and S$7 for each additional pound; UPS Shipping is S$10 for the first pound and S$6 for each additional pound, but UPS charges a minimum processing fee of S$23.60 on each shipment valued at S$400 or less, so for a bag order Buy&Ship Shipping usually works out lower. See the shipping rates page for the latest prices.
Saving tip: a single bag on its own pays ¥550 domestic shipping on the official site; orders totalling ¥11,000 or more ship free. Ultralight bags like the U.L.MONO weigh only a few dozen grams, so adding one to an order barely changes the shipping cost.
Before you order
The official site does not handle returns or warranty for forwarded orders
Montbell’s shipping policy says it will not deal with problems on orders sent through international forwarding services, and goods forwarded this way may not be eligible for returns, exchanges or warranty service. Double-check the model, size and colour before you order.
Set the delivery country to Japan
The site may set the delivery country from where you are browsing, and from Singapore it shows the overseas price. Before choosing a bag, change the delivery country (配送先, top right) to Japan to see the Japan domestic price and the full range. The price you enter on your proxy shopping request should be the Japan domestic price.
Check colour stock
The official product pages show stock colour by colour, and the same bag may be in stock in some colours and sold out for the season in others. Write the colour you want in the notes of your proxy shopping request, with a second choice, so you do not need to reorder if your first choice sells out.
Check restricted items before adding other outdoor gear
If you plan to add outdoor gear such as headlamps, gas canisters or knives to the same order, check the Buy&Ship restricted items list first.
FAQ
Can Montbell’s Japan site deliver straight to Singapore?
A: Yes, but orders for delivery to Singapore are charged at an overseas price about 39% to 43% above the Japan domestic price, plus international shipping, and overseas orders cannot reserve colours waiting for restock. Through Buy&Ship proxy shopping, the order is placed at the Japan domestic price.
Do I need a Japanese credit card or a Montbell account to buy through proxy shopping?
A: No. The Buy&Ship proxy shopping team places and pays for the order on the official site; you submit the product link on Buy&Ship and pay through your Buy&Ship account.
The colour I want is waiting for restock. Can I still order it through proxy shopping?
A: The official site only accepts restock orders for delivery within Japan. Before submitting a request, check that colour’s stock status on the product page, and note whether you are happy to wait for the restock or list a second choice.
Can I buy several bags and ship them to Singapore together?
A: Yes. Once the parcels reach the Japan warehouse, Buy&Ship can consolidate them into one shipment to Singapore, charged on the combined weight; a single official-site order of ¥11,000 or more also gets free domestic shipping in Japan.
